I am so excited. I get to meet Maggie Stiefvater tomorrow! So… I decided to post about her book covers.
This first cover is the cover to Lament. Personally, I love it. It’s very interesting and different than a lot of other covers out there.

They made a new cover for Lament that matches the cover to Ballad, the second book in the series, so that they look like a series. I love the new cover: the falling clover, the knife, and the intricacy on the handle. I love the Celtic design at the bottom. I like the cover of Ballad, though not as much as the new Lament. The colors really stand out, and I think it’ll be eye-catching. I can’t wait to read this book. And I can’t wait to see these covers in person. They are always more beautiful when they are in your hands.

What do you guys think of the covers? Do you have a preference over the covers of Lament? What draws your eye?
I wanted to include this, too. This is the German cover to Lament. I think this one is actually my favorite of all four covers posted.

What do you guys think?

I like the revamped cover of Lament better. I love Ballad though. Simple but the fire is eye catching.

I’ll bet these covers, the new Ballad, and the new cover for Lament, will work with teens. They have that focal object, well-chosen font and uncluttered background that teens seem to like (see my blog post).

Updated post to include the German cover for Lament. It’s my favorite!

And an interesting tidbit. I met Maggie yesterday, and she said the reason Lament was so hard to find was because of it’s cover. Barnes and Noble didn’t want it because they disliked the cover so much.
It seems really bad for book stores to judge books by their covers. Especially when she said it was one of, if not, the biggest selling books for the publisher. Apparently, B&N has ordered tons of the book with the new cover though.

I prefer the First Lament cover to the second because its more artisitc and the second cover is more plain and unintereting to me. It doesn’t catch my eye as much. The colours in Ballad are very eye catching and beautiful but also plain. They’re too similar to Twilight to me with the objects on a black background. The German cover however is gorgeous and I love it ^_^.

I really loved the old cover, it really captured the whole musical, arty thing going on in Lament. Also, it actually really reminded me of Irish music and art - not sure why, but it came to my mind. (: I have the newest Lament cover, & though I don’t like it as much as the old it’s very glossy and professional - I spent a while stroking it before reading it :L
I haven’t read Ballad yet since it’s so hard to get in Ireland, but hopefully it’ll be out soon. (:
